Where to stay on the triangle?
You have two strategies:
- Single base + day trips: stay in one city (San Sebastián is the most central of the triangle) and do Bilbao and Biarritz as day trips. Saves packing and unpacking.
- One night in each city: more immersive, ideal to experience the nightlife of all three, but it means moving luggage daily (where the taxi is comfortable again).
For most people, basing yourself in San Sebastián or alternating Bilbao and San Sebastián is the most balanced.
The best time for the triangle
- May-June and September: the sweet spot. Good weather, fewer crowds and softer prices. September also coincides with the San Sebastián Film Festival.
- July-August: maximum atmosphere and beach, but also peak crowds. Booking everything ahead is essential.
- Winter: Bilbao (museums) and the cuisine shine; the coast is quieter.
4 or 5-day variant
If you have more time, the triangle expands easily:
